When I grow up . . .

Baking Cookies With Kristi (Again!)

Like so many other parents, we've been discussing possible future occupations for Addy every since she was born. Our earliest suggestion was opera singer, due to the volume she could achieve, more than it's musicality! As her personality unfolds, we've come up with a few more ideas that I thought we would share. So - here are our top five careers for Addy:

  • #5 - Plumber - She loves water, has already managed to dismantle a faucet screen and a drain stopper, and her pants always seem to be falling down . . .
  • #4 - Architect - She loves building "towers" with blocks, legos, plastic tubs, or pretty much anything else. A favorite game in the tub is constructing a 'home' for her bath toys on top of the faucet. However, her favorite part of these activities is still the destruction of them! :)
  • #3 - Stuntwoman - By 18 months, she was climbing the 'rocks' at our local park, and by now she has mastered even the steepest and most complicated ladders and slides. She figured out how to roll off the couch backwards and 'stick' the landing, and loves to be tossed, "dropped", and swung around by her dad. The bruises that seem to be permanent fixtures on her legs attest to the fact that she can take just about any fall, shake it off, and keep running!
  • #2 - Movie director - Addy has VERY precise ideas of how everything should be done, and is quite sure that it is her job to make sure everyone does their part right. We are often instructed where to sit, what to say, how to position this blanket or that glass of water. When playing with puppets, I'm often told exactly what the puppet should say, and I've even been chided for not saying it in just the right voice! Look out, Peter Jackson!
  • #1 - Chef - Yesterday, I asked Addy what she wanted to be when she grew up, and she answered without hesitation, "A cook!" I was surprised that she had an answer, but not at what the answer was - Addy is crazy about food. She loves to eat it, watch me or (joy of joys) "help" me prepare it. Visits from Aunt Kristi are associated with baking together. She can turn just about any game into something about food. In the bath, she "makes" food for me, her bath toys, or herself, she'll often pretend to go shopping for her favorite foods, and at the playground has been known to pretend to operate a food stand. While playing with playdoh one day, she asked me to make a pig. When I did, she promptly chopped off it's head, cut off a slice and said, "Food for you, Mommy!" Needless to say, we're doing all we can to encourage this culinary obsession, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what creative meals Addy will come up with in the future. :)
