Addy Anecdotes

Addy & Twist-tie

It seems that more & more Addy is keeping us in stitches with her very unique way of interacting with the world. I thought I’d share some of our recent favorites.

Addy has developed a fascination with her reflection. But this isn’t confined to mirrors at all (though she loves making faces at herself when she’s supposed to be brushing her teeth). Some recent conversations I’ve witnessed have involved the chrome knob on the side of the toilet paper roll: “Hi! I sitting on potty. Nothing happen yet.”, and the bathtub faucet: “Hi! Nice to meet you! I taking bath. Um . . . um. . . um . . . ok bye!” I guess the faucet-reflection Addy wasn’t too interesting to talk to.

Addy is always trying to make sure that she knows what is going on at all times. We recently had Wade’s mom & sister visiting, and she would carefully ask every night as I was putting to bed whether they would sleep downstairs, along with asking whether Wade, Rosalie, & I would sleep in our respective rooms. One night, just after I had put Addy to bed, Kristi missed her footing and fell down a couple of steps in our entryway, making a big noise. She was fine, and we calmed everyone down and the night progressed as usual. However, for the next week, as part of her bedtime queries she would ask: “Turtie [Kristi] fall down stairs ‘gain tonight?”

Addy has, unfortunately, had her fair share of timeouts lately – many of them having to do with bedtime (it’s really the only way we can get her to stay in bed most evenings). After one such episode, Wade overheard her talking to herself in her room: “No! No, Daddy! Timeout, Daddy.” I’m sure that made her feel a bit better. :)

As we were finishing up shopping one day, Addy leaned out of her little car on the front of the cart, and was calling to me as I was trying to put the groceries in the car. “Mommy! Mommy! Take this, Mommy! Take this!” Distractedly, I grabbed the tiny little thing that she was holding out to me, only to hear, “I got it from my nose.”
